Is the RFID installation for motor vehicles until December 1 only?
No. RFID installation will continue beyond December 2020, especially for first time toll users and for those with newly-acquired vehicles.
The December 1 deadline is for operators to comply with the order on the implementation of 100% cashless transaction on toll roads.
How and where can I get an RFID sticker?
Motorists have the following options on how to acquire RFID stickers:
- Book an RFID sticker appointment online and go to the installation site on the assigned schedule;
- Walk-in at installation sites not covered by the online appointment system;
- Schedule an off-site RFID sticker installation for your area (*This is upon request and subject to availability of schedule)
- Have an RFID sticker installed at an appropriate lane at the toll gate, or at an installation site/tent near toll booths.
Online appointment schedule for RFID installation are already fully-booked. Will I be able to enter the tollgate without an RFID sticker on December 1?
If slots for the online appointment system for RFID installation are full, there is NO NEED TO PANIC. If you do not have an RFID sticker by December 1, YOU CAN HAVE IT INSTALLED ON-THE-SPOT AT THE TOLL GATE. There are RFID installation lanes at toll gates, with available tollways personnel o assist you in the installation.
If needed, all toll lanes may be converted into RFID stickering lanes starting December 1. This means that if you are a motorist whose vehicle is without an RFID sticker, and you will pass by the toll gate on December 1, one can be installed there. If not at the toll gate, you may acquire it at the installation site/tent right before or after the toll gate.
Starting December 1 until January 11, installation of RFID at all toll lanes or booths near toll gates will be 24/7.
Will I be apprehended at the toll gate if I don't have an RFID by December 1?
There will be NO APPREHENSION of motorists without RFID stickers during the transition period from December 1 to January 11, 2021.
After January 11, not all lanes at toll gates will be converted to stickering lanes. Toll operators will assign one or two stickering lanes, or an installation tent before the toll gate where vehicles may be installed with an RFID sticker. Toll operators will put up large signages at these dedicated stickering lanes to inform motorists where they should line up. Motorists may be issued a citation ticket if they do not line up at the appropriate lane, especially if they cause undue disruption to other motorists.
For motorists from far-flung provinces or those who do not usually use the expressways, do we need to install RFID?
All those who will pass expressways need to install an RFID. If you are coming from a far province, you can have the RFID installed when you need to use the expressway. There will be stickering lanes at toll gates even beyond the transition period on January 11, 2021.
What will happen if I have insufficient load in my RFID wallet? Will I be allowed to enter the expressway?
During the transition period from December 1 to January 11, those with insufficient load will be allowed entry. The barrier will be lifted and you may reload at the toll booth or you may be allowed to pass and will be asked to stop to reload your wallet near the toll gate. Tollways personnel with top-up device will be available at the toll area.

After the transition period and a motorist insists on passing through an RFID ONLY LANE without a sticker, what will be the violation?
The motorist may be cited for Disregarding Traffic Sign or Obstruction, depending on the disruption caused to other motorists.
Motorists are reminded that after the transition period on January 11, toll operators will assign specific RFID stickering lanes or RFID installation sites near the toll booth where they can have the RFID installed on their vehicles.
Does DOTr plan to integrate into one the tollway RFIDs?
This is an ongoing project of the DOTr since 2017. The project is called "Toll Interoperability" Project, wherein the first phase includes the implementation of the 100% cashless transactions on toll roads.
The project has three (3) phases:
- Phase 1 – Implementation of Cashless payments
- Phase 2 – One RFID and two wallets (the single RFID will be readable both on north and south expressways, but you still need to maintain two wallets, meaning you have to purchase load for each toll system)
- Phase 3 – One RFID and one wallet
Note that the implementation of cashless transaction is being pushed, especially at the time of the pandemic, in order to reduce the risk of virus transmission among tellers and motorists
